The Character's Familial/Biographical Information
Birth Parents (Deceased)- They died in a car fire following an accident with a drunk driver. Misoka escaped the same fire with severe burns to the back of her neck and shoulders. She was later placed with abusive foster parents.
Foster Parents (Deceased)- Misoka was placed with them at age eight after her parents died in a fire. The father was an alcoholic and the mother a drug addict. They abused her and often forced her to sleep in the streets so they could be alone. They were the first victims of her Death Note.
Light Yagami(Fiancee/Later Deceased)- After the timeskip, they became engaged in secret while Light was pretending to be engaged to Misa so he could exploit her power of the Shinigami Eyes. He planned to kill Misa with the Death Note when she was no longer useful.
Ohta Kinoshita-Yagami (Son/Alive)- Misoka became pregnant with Ohta before Light's death. She and Light were going to get married after Light's prospected win over Near. She and her son moved in with Misa and her daughter Reika, a few months before Misa's suicide.
Reika Amane-Yagami (Adopted Daughter/Alive)- Reika is Misa's daughter by Light. Light had "relations" with Misa as a means to manipulate her, leading to Reika's birth a month after Ohta's. When Misa committed suicide, Misoka adopted Reika.
Misoka was born into a middle-class family. She had very loving parents, who always made time for her. They got her involved in community theater and always took off work to watch every performance. Her father was a base-level office worker for a financial firm, and her mother was a stay-at-home mom who sold handmade pottery over the internet. Misoka was an only child, but her parents made sure she didn't grow up to be spoiled and taught her to be mannerly. Misoka was under the illusion that she had a perfect family, but secretly her parents fought when she wasn't home. They were in crippling debt and were at risk of losing their house, but they kept all that away from Misoka so keep from making the little girl worry.
After her parents died in a vehicular fire following a crash, and gained her scar, Misoka was sent to live with an awful foster family. They were abusive, and she had to sneak food if she wanted to eat. The few times she had been caught she was locked out of the house for the whole night. After one such occasion, when she was fourteen, she came across a notebook that had fallen from the sky while she walked through and alley. The cover read, "Nota Mortem" and on the back of the front cover were more words written in the same language. She found a library that was about to close and used a computer to translate the words. She found that the words were Latin and that she had a Death Note with rules on how to use it. She wrote a translated set of rules and taped it over the existing ones, leaving the bottom loose so she could flip the page. She decided to try to use the Death Note to see if it was real. She wrote down the names of her foster parents and specified that they would unlock the door before overdosing on drugs.
When she got home, she found the door unlocked and her foster parents dead in the living room. She took all the money in the house she could find and left, not bothering to call the police. She got an apartment on the other side of town and a job as a waitress at a restaurant. She exchanged schools and ended up being in class with Light Yagami. She hadn't used her Death Note since she killed her parents, but started to again when Light found his. She was with him when he did and told him what it was for. That's when they started to kill criminals, and a wicked friendship blossomed.
